Deborah R. Diedericks is the Global Mental Health Lead for EMpower. As this is a new role, Deborah will support EMpower to develop a common framework and reference for our mental health work, build the capacity of EMpower staff and grantee partners to deepen community based mental health interventions contextually, and play a key role in facilitating relationships with existing and potential mental health donors. 

Deborah is a seasoned professional with 20+ years of experience in the development and mental health sector in South Africa. She has a successful track record in leading efficient and effective processes in the non-profit sector; successfully making the transition between a local non-profit and an international grant maker. In her previous role as the South Africa Programme Officer at EMpower, Deborah has refined and executed a strategy on mental health and resilience in South Africa, growing the portfolio significantly.

She holds a Master’s degree in Adult Education and Development (MPhil) from the University of Cape Town.

In her free time, Deborah loves to spend time with her husband and daughter, walking on the beautiful mountains in Cape Town, and reading multiple books at the same time.
