Grantee Partner News

In January, a group of EMpower supporters, accompanied by Board Director, Maddy Foo, made a trip to India. The purpose of this visit was to provide a deeper understanding of EMpower’s work with young people in the region, specifically in Delhi. The group met with three grantee partners: Azad Foundation, The YP Foundation and CREA over two days. Through these interactions, the Donors had an opportunity to talk with grantee partner teams at length, take a closer look at their programs, and meet young people who spoke to the impact of the programs through personal stories of change. The trip allowed the EMpower team in India to foreground the impactful work being done by our partners in the region. It was also an opportunity to delve deeper into EMpower’s gender lens focus in its work with young people in India.

On November 27, EMpower’s Girls Advisory Council (GAC) leaders moderated a session at the Sankalp Global Summit 2019 in Mumbai.

The first EMpower Grants meeting of FY2020 was held in London on December 9th. 8 grants were approved by the Committee totalling $453,000.

Almost 400 EMpower supporters came together in London on 21st November to honor our grantee partner Tiempo de Juego during a very successful Annual Dinner.

​Citi representatives visited EMpower partner organization Kallpa in Lima, Peru in October, to see firsthand the Citi e for education initiative's support of education globally.

The graduation of 52 girl leaders from EMpower’s Adolescent Girls Learning Community in Delhi was a special occasion made even more meaningful through the participation of the girls’ families. As a crucial step in raising the issues that negatively impact their mobility, girl leaders used the event to report the results from a community-based survey on restrictions, which was designed and executed entirely by them.
