25 Events in 2025: Women’s Event in the UK

On May 22, EMpower Board Directors Parvoleta Shtereva and Swatee Deepak hosted a special Women’s Event in the UK. The event brought together women from across the financial services sector for an evening of honest conversation, community-building, and shared inspiration.

In a sector where women-only spaces are rare, this gathering offered a unique opportunity to connect, reflect, and begin shaping what could become EMpower’s own women's network. The event was not only a chance to deepen relationships with longstanding supporters, but also to introduce new allies to our mission and approach. At the heart of it all was the idea that shared stories—and safe, intentional spaces—can spark long-term engagement and collective action.

What We Discussed – Key Takeaways:
As each guest shared her journey and insights, several powerful themes emerged—messages for young women navigating their own paths, and reminders for us all:

Take up space, and don’t apologise for it

Have courage—even when it’s hard

Prioritise financial independence

Dare to be different—challenge your community’s limited expectations

Lead with compassion—and be more compassionate with yourself

And to men: Lead with humility

We were also honoured to spotlight Ncazelo Ncube-Mlilo, founder of Phola, a nonprofit pioneering culturally grounded mental health support for vulnerable communities. Through the Tree of Life methodology, now used in over 60 countries, Ncazelo and her team are redefining healing and resilience. Her work challenges Western-centric approaches and champions the power of African storytelling to restore dignity and hope.
